![]() trinidad - jungle trip blanchisseuse>matelot
petite tacarib bay > grande tacaribe bay > madamas bay > pitite riviere > matelot (> toco) Comment: This part of the tour was the most strenuous: the path was often difficult to find, so it took me two days. On the evening of the first day, the night caught me in the middle of the forest. After I had made myself comfortable between boulders at the bottom of a ravine, a thunderstorm hit me right at the beginning of the night: wet and cold - again no sleep. The morning was ushered in by the raucous noise of a horde of howler monkeys. I spent the first half of the day following a wrong path for several hours, on which I was repeatedly forced to climb over fallen trees and other obstacles, only to end up in the middle of the mountains. In such cases, the rule is: don't panic! So I dragged my self all the way back, with lots of breaks, my performance was now at zero. Fortunately, I found the right path in the early afternoon, and after crossing one last river and passing lots of hills and the canyons in between, I arrived in Matelot in the evening, where I was able to get a room, beer and something to eat. The following day, a Sunday, there was no public transport, but I was picked up by a bus with schoolchildren and taken to Toco. From there, getting back to Port of Spain via Sangre Grande and Arima was a piece of cake. |
