marosell bay > senna bay > preparia bay > paria bay > murphy bay > tony's bay > rambeau beach > petite tacarib bay
Comment: That day I came to eight bays, some of them hundreds of meters wide, but met only three people. One who was climbing the palm trees and collecting coconuts - and who pluged fresh nuts for me to drink. The second one was a guy who lived in Paria Bay and offered accomodation to visitors who come occasionally by boat. He explained me the course of the path to Matelot. The third one was Lester, the founder of Eco Lodge in Petite Tacarib Bay where I spent the following night. These tree people are the only human beeings I met in my three and a half days walk! As I hadn't slept the night before in Marosell Bay and had nothing to eat apart from saltine crackers, the walk through the rainforest at over 30° C and high humidity was doubly strenuous - down into the gorge, up the mountain, down, up and so on. Occasionally there were rivers to wade through and the path was difficult to find anyway. So when I stumbled across Lester and his Eco Lodge at the eastern end of Petite Tacarib Bay in the early afternoon, pretty much at the end of my tether, I stayed there for the rest of the day and overnight. |
